JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — State of Franklin Healthcare Associates (SOFHA) was awarded a $10,000 grant, which it plans to put to use in its apprenticeship program.

A news release from SOFHA announced the healthcare provider received the grant from the Workforce Development Board.

“Received in partnership with the Johnson City chapter of the First Tennessee Development District, the grant will support SOFHA’s Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) Apprenticeship Program, which aspires to improve the career opportunities for the community while creating a pipeline to qualified clinical staff for SOFHA,” the release states.

SOFHA launched the apprenticeship program in 2023 with the help of Northeast State Community College. Both internal SOFHA employees who seek to further their careers and external candidates looking for new job opportunities take part in the program.

According to SOFHA, the grant will help offset administrative costs associated with running the program.

The CCMA’s inaugural class of four recently graduated, and the second cohort, made up of nine participants, has begun its studies.
