BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) -Speedway Children’s Charities hosted its sixth annual Bristol Burnout event at the Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday. The event benefited the charity.

Fitness enthusiasts competed in male and female teams to raise money for local children in need. Bristol Burnout is a “functional fitness competition similar to Crossfit style events,” according to Besty Holleman, director of Speedway Children’s Charities .

Holleman said the charity reaches out to local gyms, which help spread the word in preparation for the event. Divisions included RX, RX-ish and Scaled Three-Person teams. She said the Bristol Burnout gains more attention each year.

“We’ve got some amazing people on board that help make this day a whole lot easier. This idea started as just an interest in gaining more community members, more advocates for Speedway Children’s Charities, and the CrossFit community is so tight-knit, we thought, ‘Why not engage with them?’ And they’ve been super generous over the years.”

Holleman said Bristol Motor Speedway is known for its large events and wanted to participate in the fun.

“Well, it’s not only fun,” she said. “These people love to work out and compete. And so doing that for a cause for statewide children’s charities makes it that much more fun.”
