    JCPD: Alleged carjacker apprehended after wrong-way crash on Bristol Highway

    JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A carjacking suspect out of Kingsport was apprehended in Johnson City on Sunday afternoon after driving the wrong direction and crashing, the Johnson City Police Department (JCPD) reports.

    A spokesperson for the JCPD told News Channel 11 that police were notified the carjacking suspect had traveled into their jurisdiction at around 2:36 p.m. The JCPD said officers then responded to a crash on Bristol Highway at the TN-381 south entrance ramp at around 2:41 p.m.

    The JCPD said the suspect was traveling in the wrong direction and caused a sideswipe-angled crash with another vehicle. “No serious injuries were reported,” the statement said.

    According to police, the suspect was apprehended “a short distance from the crash.” The suspect’s identity was not provided by the JCPD.

    The department said charges are pending against the suspect and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
