WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter has reduced its adoption fees after taking in more than 200 animals in a short amount of time.

As of Tuesday, the shelter had taken in more than 200 animals since the start of the month.

Adoption fees have been reduced through the end of September.

Cats and kittens can be adopted for $25. All felines have been spayed or neutered, are up to date on shots and are microchipped. The reduced adoption fee for dogs is $35.

Tammy Davis, the executive director at the shelter, joined News Channel 11 on Tuesday and encouraged people to open their homes to a new pet.

Davis said there are 500 animals at the shelter as of Tuesday and called the number of homeless pets a nationwide crisis. She urged anyone looking for a kitten to consider taking a sibling or another kitten.

The animal shelter is also looking for business partners to host adoption events or collect donations.

More information about adopting animals from the shelter can be found online.

They refuse to take feral kittens and cats. I’ve been feeding them for almost 3 years now and the shelter refuses help

People, if you can’t take care of your animals and keep them safe, DON’T GET ONE!
