GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Greeneville Energy Authority (GEA) customers can expect a slightly higher electric bill starting in October.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced on Aug. 22 that a 5.25% base rate increase would take effect on Oct. 1, 2024. For most customers, that increase represents an average of $4.35 on each bill.

The GEA told News Channel 11 on Wednesday that its customers would see a separate 1.5% increase on their electric bills, averaging about $2.36 more.

Between both increases, GEA customers will pay nearly $7 per bill.

A GEA spokesperson told News Channel 11 that the provider had to implement the additional 1.5% increase to cover the rising cost of materials and supplies.

Both increases take effect Oct. 1, 2024.
