    Assistant principal accused of bruising 5-year-old student in Virginia

    SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday that an elementary school assistant principal is accused of a assaulting a student.

    The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said it became aware of the allegation on Aug. 28.

    A mother said after her 5-year-old daughter returned from Spotswood Elementary School, she noticed bruises on her daughter’s back and ribs. The mother said when she asked the girl how she got the bruises, the 5-year-old told her that an adult at the school grabbed her because she didn’t want to walk.

    The sheriff’s office said investigators determined that the school’s assistant principal, Misty Tamera Kelley, 52, was the adult accused of bruising the girl.

    The Spotsylvania County Public Schools central office administration was contacted as protocol, and the sheriff’s office said Kelley was placed on administrative leave as soon as the school division was notified on Aug. 28.

    SCSO said the charge against Kelley is misdemeanor assault and battery and that Kelley agreed to turn herself in.
