JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Changes and additions to the home football experience are in store for East Tennessee State University (ETSU) fans this home game.

The ETSU Bucs face UVA Wise for the first home game of the season on Saturday.

“We’re excited to kick off the Tre Lamb era at home here,” said Mike Desrochers, assistant athletic director of revenue generation for ETSU. “We feel confident in this team behind me and what they’re going to do this season.”

New head football coach Tre Lamb will make his home debut Saturday. Plus, university staff have made changes to the tailgating experience.

Close to the stadium will be a beer garden and a super screen. This area is free to enter. Plus, inside the stadium, Ford vehicles will be showcased.

The Food City Fan Zone has been moved from next to the Center of Physical Activity (CPA) to across the street in Lot 21, the parking lots outside the parking garage.

“We wanted to have a centralized hub that all of our fans can go to and be right in the heart of our tailgating action,” said Desrochers.

All of the tailgating classics will be available such as cornhole. “Grill Talk” will be hosted by Jay Sandos.

Plus, there will be a BrightRidge tent where fans can watch games from across the country.

ETSU’s largest marching band since its re-establishment will play classic stand tunes and for half time has prepared a medley called Happy Together.

“It is designed to lift people’s spirits, make them smile, make them forget about their cares,” said Director of Athletic Bands Joe Moore.

The show features “Happy Together” by The Turtles, “Oh Happy Day” by Edwin Hawkins Singers, “Happy” by Pharrell, and “Ode to Joy”.

The future Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performers have been working hard to prepare for performances.

“Our show is more difficult and more demanding this year, both musically and visually,” said Moore. “And I planned it that way on purpose because we’re building endurance and momentum so we will be ready for the parade.”

Tailgating lots open at 8 a.m. Saturday. Passes are $20. Gameday tickets can be purchased at the Bank of Tennessee arch. Desrochers said those tickets are going fast for the first home game. Hillside tickets go on sale the Friday before each home. Reserved seats are on sale now until game day, starting at $20.
