Crews respond to fatal apartment fire in Russell County

RUSSELL COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Multiple fire crews responded to a fatal apartment fire on Wednesday on Hawkins Mill Lane in Russell County.

According to Jess Powers, Russell County EMA coordinator, the four-unit apartment complex fire happened at 4:40 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters saw one unit fully engulfed.

Powers confirmed one fatality, but the person’s identity was not released.

The American Red Cross is servicing the three other displaced families and Russell County EMA is assisting them.

Powers said Virginia State Police is investigating the fire.
