SCOTT COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Scott County Sheriff Jeff Edds has been issued a criminal summons stemming from allegations of assault and battery after an incident on Sunday.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Scott County General District Court, a woman who identified herself as Edds’s daughter-in-law arrived at her home Sunday afternoon and found several of her and her child’s belongings outside in the rain.

When opening the door, Edds was in the living room and reportedly told the owner to get out.

Edds then allegedly pushed the woman, attempting to force them out of the door, the complaint reports.

“I was scared he was physically going to hurt me when he put his hands on me and was pushing me so forcefully,” the complaint reads.

A Virginia State Police spokesperson confirmed to News Channel 11 that the agency did serve the summons to Edds.

Edds is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1 at 8:30 a.m.

The Scott County Commonwealth’s Attorney Kyle Kilgore has recused himself from the case, he confirmed on Thursday. Another commonwealth’s attorney will be appointed to prosecute at the appointment of the court.

News Channel 11 reached out to Edds on Thursday for an interview, which he declined.
