BRISTOL, Tenn. (WJHL) — After being in the works for over a year, the inaugural class of the Bristol, Tennessee City Schools Athletic Hall of Fame was inducted in Viking Hall at Tennessee High School on Sunday.

Athletes from Tennessee High School and the former Slater High School were honored with a ceremony and a trophy made from the rocks from the original Stone Castle.

The 1962 Slater High School Championship football team was awarded a trophy that they never received 62 years ago.

Tennessee High Athletic Director Blaine Brown said a committee of people worked for over a year to put the Bristol, Tennessee City Schools Athletics Hall of Fame together.

“Having conversations with inductees and alumni today, there’s just so much pride in this community, in athletics,” Brown said. “It just gives me chills to think about it. I saw a number of nominees today that were just brought to emotion, brought him to tears. When we announced the Slater Championship team today, I looked out in the seats and just [saw] people moved [with] emotion, and it’s incredible that there’s this that much pride in Tennessee High, Slater High and Bristol, Tennessee Schools Athletics.”
