WISE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A student in the Wise County, Virginia school system has been charged after allegedly making threats directed towards a school.

The school involved in the alleged threat was within the “Union School System” in Big Stone Gap, Sheriff Grant Kilgore told News Channel 11.

The sheriff’s office was made aware of the threats Monday evening, Kilgore said. Investigators, Patrol and School Resource Officers worked throughout the night and into morning to identify a person of interest.

Kilgore stated the suspect is in custody and has been charged. Their identity will not be released due to their age.

“At this time we feel the threat has been mitigated and [we] have extra resources at all of our public schools,” Kilgore said.

    The investigation remains ongoing.
