    Appalachian Power to use helicopter for wire installation

    WASHINGTON COUNTY, Virginia (WJHL) — Appalachian Power will use a helicopter to install new transmission lines in Washington County, Virginia.

    Crews will install new wire on 35 transmission line structures as part of the Washington County Improvements Project. According to Appalachian Power, wire will be installed on 12 new transmission structures near the Virginia Creeper Trail.

    Second AT shelter (Roan High Knob) in Carter County now closed

    A helicopter will be used on Tuesday, weather permitting, to complete the project. If not completed on Tuesday, crews will continue work the next day.

    September’s wire installation begins at a transmission structure near Jeb Stuart Highway and Watauga Road.
