Sycamore Shoals welcomes Revolutionary War legacy groups

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – Members of several Revolutionary War legacy groups gathered at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park on Saturday to commemorate the 244th anniversary of when the Overmountain Men marched to the Battle of Kings Mountain.

The event featured reenactments, a musket volley, memorial wreaths and tents set up showing how people lived during the 1700s. At the end of the day’s activities, the group marched to the location of the Battle of Kings Mountain.

David Carr of the Kings Mountain chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution said the gathering comes after a threatening letter from the British to area members of the revolution.

“We’re talking about Scot-Irish people that had always resisted the crown to begin with, so what did that do- it didn’t scare them,” said Carr. “It made them mad, so they asked all the men to gather here on the 25th of September to form an army.”
