UMOJA hosts 27th annual Unity Festival, health fair

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – UMOJA of Johnson City hosted its 27th annual Unity Festival on Saturday at King Commons Park. The festival featured a Bilingual Health Fair and live entertainment.

The Unity Festival is a gospel festival that provides resources while welcoming food trucks, arts and crafts, face painting for children and more. Ishmael Nehemiah, M’Soul, Rhoda G and The Company Band entertained guests.

The festival was held at King Commons Park after being held at various locations throughout the years. UMOJA also hosted an opening ceremony and parade before the festival.

“Now we’re here at King’s Commons,” said Joe Bradley, Unity Festival chair.”We love it. The sun is shining. You better get here. The UMOJA means unity in Swahili.”

Bradley said that UMOJA represents ‘unity in the community’ and anticipates a sizeable yearly crowd.

“And that’s what you see here, our different types of people, the community loves it,” said Bradley. “I’m telling you, man—unity in the community. Come on down. Oh, man, it’s great, man. I’m telling you, man, everybody just. It’s just wonderful, man. I mean, everybody. The sun is shining this year.”
