    Wasps bash Big Blue, 40-13

    EMORY, Va. (WJHL) – For the second time in as many seasons, Emory & Henry took it to Bluefield State on the gridiron.

    Thomas Lee caught a 17-yard touchdown pass to put the Big Blue on the board first, 7-0. But, the Wasps would score the next 19 points and roll to a 40-13 win.

    Charles Mutter III completed 9-of-32 passes for the home squad, wracking up 151 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scores went to Nate Tinnell (2 rec, 33 yds, 2 TD), while the other found Cam Abshire (5 rec, 123 yds, TD).

    Jordan Jackson pounded the rock all afternoon, carrying the ball 27 times for 162 yards and a score.

    Trace Butcher added a 21-yard field goal and five extra points in the victory.

    Bluefield State accounted for 307 yards of total offense, but the Wasps defense swarmed for four takeaways. Shawn Collins, Addison Knicely and A.J. Burgess all snatched interceptions in the win.

    Emory & Henry (2-0) opens South Atlantic Conference play next Saturday, as the Wasps host Barton at 1 p.m.
