WISE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — The Wise County Emergency Management Agency’s (EMA) Facebook page has been compromised, the agency confirmed.

A news release from the EMA stated the page was “compromised by an unauthorized user.”

The incident has been reported to Facebook and other agencies, the release states.

According to the EMA, action has also been taken to improve the security of other county-managed social media pages.

“Wise County takes cybersecurity threats very seriously,” the release states. “Any threat to local government cyber property may be considered an act of domestic terrorism and will be investigated thoroughly.”

The EMA advised members of the community to ignore any posts made from the Facebook page until further notice. Those who need official and accurate updates from the EMA are asked to visit the county’s official website or check other official social media accounts like the sheriff’s office and county government pages.
