    VSP: Motorcyclist dies after Smyth County crash

    SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A motorcyclist died after sustaining injuries in a crash in Smyth County, according to Virginia State Police (VSP).

    VSP stated in a news release that the crash occurred at 4:10 p.m. on Sunday at the exit 39 off-ramp of Interstate 81 North.

    A 2024 Suzuki GSXR was leaving the interstate but reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign at the end of the ramp. The motorcycle hit the side of a vehicle heading north on Route 11 at the end of the ramp.

    The motorcyclist was transported to Smyth County Community Hospital, were state police report he later died due to his injuries.

    VSP identified the motorcyclist as Jessie R. Bragg, 33, of Shady Spring, West Virginia. Bragg had been wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

    The driver of the vehicle Bragg’s motorcycle struck was not injured.

    As of Tuesday, the crash remains under investigation.
