KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — It’s officially race week in the Tri-Cities as the green flag drops Thursday for the ARCA and truck race.

Knoxville-based NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Chad Finchum will have to wait until Friday night when the green flag drops for the Food City 300.

The T-R Ford driver first raced on the concrete of Bristol back in 2018, before that, he won at Bristol in 2016 in what is now the ARCA Menards Series East.

Bristol has always been home for him and not he would like to win on the next level.

“This is the one on the schedule that I always highlight every year. You know, I made a mention that I was full-time up until 2020. The pandemic kind of ran its course. And the sponsors that I had on my side kind of affected them negatively. So ever since 2021, I’ve been part-time in the NASCAR series. So now whenever I’m picking my races at the beginning of the year, Bristol is always one that we double-highlight and put an asterisk next to,” Finchum said.

This morning Finchum was a part of the Knoxville BMS Neighborhood Heroes program which honored state trooper Frank William Yates-Matoy for being named the DUI Trooper of the Year by the governor’s highway safety office in 2022.
