BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) — The Bristol, Virginia Police Department (BVPD) is launching a new system that allows the public to share tips anonymously.

An Internet-based tool from CitizenObserver, tip411, allows the public to text message an anonymous tip to authorities and lets officers respond back in real time to create an anonymous two-way conversation.

Anyone with a cell phone can send an anonymous tip to the BVPD by texting “Bristolvapd” and their message or tip to 847411 (tip411).

Anonymous web tips can also be submitted online here .

“This will become a very valuable tool that will better facilitate the passing of information to our department allowing us to solve crimes and make arrests much quicker,” BVPD Major Darryl Milligan said in a news release. “We encourage the public to take advantage of this and still be able to remain completely anonymous.”

Anyone with questions is asked to call the police department at 276-645-7400.

Several local law enforcement agencies, including the Greeneville Police Department , have implemented the new tip411 system.

This is for people who live drama. Nosey people. I can understand if there was a life threatening situation.....but, for something like traffic violations, or because a driver was seen smoking weed, or have a taillight out....is just plain causmatic!!

Or anonymous tips when your neighbor is dealing drugs in the middle of the night and you don't want him/her killing your pets because his attorney got your info from a FOIA request.
