First responders found two vehicles had collided in the westbound lanes of the highway. The EPD Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was called to the scene of the crash.

An investigation reportedly found that a black Honda Pilot was heading east on the highway when it left the road and traveled across the median into the westbound lanes.

The Honda hit an Audi Q8 that was traveling west. Debris from the collision damaged another vehicle in the westbound lanes, according to the EPD.

Police report that the driver of the Honda had suffered a medical emergency before the crash. He was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center by Carter County EMS.

As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, the driver of the Honda was in critical condition.
