White Pine Police: One person killed in ‘road rage’ shooting

WHITE PINE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — The White Pine Police Department is investigating after “a road rage incident” left one person dead early Monday morning near Interstate 81.

WPPD shared that they along with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation responded to a road rage incident around 5:20 a.m. on Roy Messer Hwy at exit 4 close to I-81. According to the department, Jordan Price, 20, of White Pine was shot once and taken to UT Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

WPPD said Derwin Wilds, 59, of Newport has been charged with voluntary manslaughter. He is being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center.

This morning at approximately 5:20 A.M. officers were dispatched to Roy Messer Hwy at exit 4 close to I-81 in reference to a road rage incident that escalated to a shooting with one person being shot. The scene is safe and is not an active shooter situation. Currently, investigators are on scene so please avoid the area and take an alternate route. We will advise an update shortly.
