JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) – A water plant is shut down in Jonesborough after catastrophic flooding, according to Kevin Brobeck, Jonesborough Water Distribution Director.

Brobeck said all businesses running off the plant will not have water until the Nolichucky River’s levels go down.

All residents in Jonesborough are encouraged to conserve water.

State Representative Rebecca Alexander announced her Breakfast with Becky event scheduled for Saturday at the Kitchen at Grace Meadows has been canceled due to the water plant’s closure.

The rapidly rising Nolichucky River has led to extreme flooding in Unicoi, Washington and Greene Counties. Embreeville residents were ordered to evacuate , and dozens of people were stranded on the roof of the Unicoi County Hospital as a result of the river rising.

    This is a developing story.
