(WJHL) – Due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene, just two high school football games in Northeast Tennessee were played on Friday night.

ETSU football team stalled on I-26 awaiting water to recede

In Morristown, Dobyns-Bennett jumped out to a convincing 33-7 lead at halftime and never looked back, grabbing a road win – 47-14.

The Tribe moves to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the all-important Region 1-6A standings.

On the campus of Providence Academy, the Knights hosted the program’s first home game on a brand new turf stadium. Tri-Cities Christian, normally an eight-man squad, played eleven-man football on Friday night.

Providence’s Josh Owens caught two touchdown passes to give the home team a 14-8 advantage in the third quarter. But, the Eagles scored 20-unanswered points to grab a 28-20 victory.

“Coach just told us 100 percent – gas on the pedal and just keep going,” Tri-Cities Christian senior Preston Holmes said. “They wanted us to come here so we just came here and played our hearts out.”

“It was super good,” senior Noah Coclough added. “It was like a rivalry game. Good job to win – way to go out and just do our thing.”

“The guys did a phenomenal job,” Tri-Cities head coach Jeremy Bosken said. “I mean, those three rain days trying to prepare for this – when you’ve been 8-man for five games straight and now you have to switch to 11-man – it’s a big difference. Getting them to focus, they did a phenomenal job and that’s really a tip of the hat to our nine seniors that kind of kept them focused this year.”

Tri-Cities Christian will look to clinch an eight-man playoff spot with a win over Zion Christian next Friday night.
