(WJHL) – One day removed from Hurricane Helene’s arrival in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, a handful of high school football programs took the field to play their rescheduled contests.

In Johnson City, Science Hill and William Blount combined for six touchdowns in the first quarter. However, the Governors couldn’t keep pace, as the Toppers remained undefeated in Region 1-6A with a 55-28 victory.

Daniel Boone mounted a furious fourth-quarter comeback in Gray, but Campbell County recovered a late onside kick attempt to seal a round win, 28-21.

The Vikings crossed state lines on Saturday and handed Abingdon its first loss of the season, as Tennessee High shutout the Falcons, 21-0.

In the first Southwest District game for both teams, Graham maintained its perfect record in 2024, holding off Virginia High in Bristol, 27-14.

The Titans wasted no time in Nickelsville against visiting Cumberland Gap, scoring a pair of early touchdowns. Twin Springs would ride out a 24-6 victory over the Panthers.

Rye Cove continued its offensive domination in Southwest Virginia, rolling past Castlewood on the road, 55-14.
