UNICOI COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL)—The Unicoi County Director of Schools, John English, updated News Channel 11 on the status of students and teachers returning to campuses across the district.

English said that at this time, a majority of their campuses are aiding in a crucial part of the recovery process. Unicoi County High School is a shelter, helping 150 to 200 people right now, according to English.

“As far as the question of when we can get back to school, that’s going to be a process and there will be a lot of factors that go into that in terms of accessibility and power. There’s a lot of things so I would say it’s unlikely that we’d be ready a week from tomorrow to resume school,” said English.

English said they will update parents, students, and staff as soon as they have a plan to return to campus, but noted that could be difficult with ongoing power outages and service issues.
