JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — East Tennessee State University (ETSU) activated its Buccaneer Student Crisis Fund (BCSF) to aid students who have been impacted by historic flooding.

ETSU announced on Monday it is accepting monetary donations to the fund as it expects more needs to arise.

Students who receive funds from the BSCF can use them to buy food, clothing, books and technology. The money can also be used by students to cover travel costs in emergency situations and pay for expenses like unexpected car repairs or rent if circumstances have made it difficult to do so.

Any student enrolled in ETSU classes can request help from the BSCF. Requests are reviewed and approved by the Dean of Students Office and the ETSU CARE Team.

More information about the BSCF can be found online.

ETSU has canceled classes through Friday, Oct. 4. All other university functions will be open.

The BSCF was created in 2019 and is made possible through private donations. The fund has awarded more than $200,000 to students since it was formed, according to the university.
