TWRA: Body of missing man found near Nolichucky River

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The body of missing man Boone McCrary was recovered from a creek that feeds the Nolichucky River on Tuesday, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

The TWRA stated in a news release that McCrary’s body was recovered in a creek near W. Allen’s Bridge Road in Greeneville around 2 p.m. by a search team.

McCrary, 32 of Greeneville, had launched a boat into the river on Friday shortly after 7 p.m. The TWRA stated that a female occupant and a Labrador Retriever were also in the boat near Bird’s Bridge.

The boat was reportedly swept into the bridge and capsized, sending everyone into the water.

The woman was safely rescued, the TWRA reports, but McCrary and his dog were swept downstream with the boat as the Nolichucky raged and swelled to historic levels due to the effects of Hurricane Helene.

The boat and dog were found on Sunday afternoon by the TWRA. The dog did not survive.

“TWRA offers prayers and condolences to McCrary’s family and loved ones,” the agency stated.

As of Tuesday, the incident was still under investigation.
