KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) – The City of Kingsport lifted its boil water notice on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a waterline broke inside the city’s water filtration plant property. The plant had to be shut down to be fixed.

The city said no contaminants ever entered the water system, and the precautionary boil water notice has been lifted.

“We are confident no contaminants entered our water distribution system, but we had to go through this process to ensure safe and healthy drinking water was being delivered to your tap,” said Chad Austin, Kingsport’s Assistant Utilities Director.

The waterline break caused a widespread water outage throughout the city and also suspended elective surgeries at both Holston Valley Medical Center and Indian Path Community Hospital.
