    Johnson County provides updated road closures, resources

    JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson County provided an update on road closures and resources for those in need throughout the county.

    Road Closures

    As of Tuesday, the following road closures are active in Johnson County:

    • State Route 421 towards North Carolina
    • State Route 91 towards Damascus
    • Roan Creek Road/167 from Lakeview Drive to Shaw Ward Road

    County roads are passable but those traveling are asked to remain cautious.

    A release from the Johnson County Mayor’s Office advises numerous crews are out working on roads throughout the county.

    Announcements

    U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn has offered pop-up office hours to provide flood assistance.

    The office hours will run from 9 a.m. – noon at the Johnson County Courthouse lower courtroom (222 West Main Street, Mountain City).

    • USPS Mail that was diverted to the Trade Post office can now be picked up at the remote trailer located behind the Mountain City Post Office – Mountain City Post Office (216 College Street)
    • TDEC: Mandatory Water Conservation for non-essential water usage. Examples of non-essential use of water are clothes washing, running dishwashers, landscaping irrigation or washing cars
    • Boil Water Notice has been lifted for Mountain City Residents
    • Any vegetative debris needs to be placed on the right of way next to the road. Do your best to separate vegetation from construction debris. Put them in separate piles. Crews will be in the area soon to begin collection. They will not remove anything on private property.

    All schools are open for support Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Laundry, showers and supplies are available at the elementary schools.

    • Butler
      • Supplies and cold weather items – Butler Depot at Watauga Lake (114 Piercetown Road) – Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
      • Hot meals, personal hygiene and cleaning supplies – Watauga Lake Mercantile – Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
    • Mountain City
      • Meals and supplies – National Guard Armory (1923 S. Shady Street) – Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
      • Red Cross Shelter, meals, showers, food trucks – First Christian Church (401 West Main Street) – Monday through Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., lunch from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
      • Supplies, showers and laundry – Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (Hwy 167 Roan Creek Road) – Daily, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., meals from 4 – 7 p.m.
      • Supplies, showers and laundry – Calvary Baptist Church Life Center (1354 Cold Springs Road) – Daily, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., meals from 5 – 8 p.m.
      • Diapers, wipes, formula, baby clothes, maternity clothes, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items – Pregnancy Support Center email for help (pscjc70@gmail.com) – as needed
      • Meal delivery for homebound senior citizens – Johnson County Senior Center (128 College Street) – Monday through Friday, call for assistance (423-727-8883)
      • Free, high-speed internet – MC/JC Community Center (128 College Street) – Monday through Friday
      • Free wifi, water, cell phone charging – Johnson County Center for the Arts (129 West Main Street) – Monday through Saturday
      • Free wifi, cell phone charging – Johnson County Welcome Center (716 S Shady Street) – Monday through Friday
      • Water, food, hygiene, cleaning supplies, pet food and clothing – Doe Valley VFD (283 Slabtown Road) – Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    • Laurel Bloomery
      • Hot meals and supplies – Faith Gospel Church (6659 TN-91) – Oct. 9, 4 – 7 p.m.
    • Trade
      • Supplies, shower and laundry trailer – Trade Volunteer Fire Department
      • Supplies and shower trailer – Evergreen Baptist Church (8805 Highway 421 S)
      • Food, cleaning supplies, pet food, snacks, paper towels, toilet paper, trash bags, baby items, clothing, batteries, lamp oil, lighters, candles and more – ZRC Skate (11878 Hwy 421)

    Monetary Donations

    The following Johnson County charities are recognized 501(c)(3) organizations that have committed to designated funds raised for disaster relief assistance to Johnson County residents, according to the Johnson County Mayor’s Office:

    Livestock Feed Pickup

    An emergency livestock feed pickup site is located at the Appalachian Fair. Feed is available for pickup every Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
