    Bays Mountain Park reopens after being closed due to Hurricane Helene

    KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Bays Mountain Park reopened on Wednesday after being closed for a week due to damage from Hurricane Helene .

    The park announced it has reopened at normal hours, however, some trails remain closed.

    The following trails are open to the public:

    • Azalea
    • Chestnut
    • Big Oak, Moonshiners
    • River Mountain Road
    • Fire Tower
    • Lakeside
    • Towhee
    • Food Plot
    • Sweet Gum
    • Hemlock
    • Chinquapin
    • Lake Road
    • Bays Ridge Road
    • Dolan Branch
    • Cliffside
    • Pine

    The park advises mountain bikers to be cautious of small branches along River Mountain Road and Chinquapin.

    Bays Mountain Park said it aims to have the western end of the park open by Friday.

    “Work is continuing every day to remove trees, limbs and debris from the trails at Bays Mountain Park,” the park said in a news release. “Updates will be provided on the condition of the trails once more information is available. We appreciate the public’s patience during this challenging time.”

    No animals were harmed in the storm, according to the park.
