JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – BURG’R & BARREL restaurant staff went to Banner Elk, North Carolina, on Wednesday to serve families affected by Hurricane Helene.

Gary Kalogeros, owner of BURG’R & BARREL, said his staff did not hesitate to lend a hand when the restaurant was informed that help was needed.

“It was very humbling,” he said. “They did a fantastic job. We saw tons of different items that have been donated by everybody, from people to churches to organizations, and it was amazing what has come together.”

Kalogeros said the Appalachian community is “remarkable.”

“I felt like the South and the Southern people have pulled together just in the most remarkable way, and it’s just very warming to everybody’s heart to see that and everybody that worked up there today and gave their time. I think we all feel the same way.”
