BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Bluff City Mayor Jeff Broyles announced on Wednesday evening he will resign as the town’s mayor.

“My heart is full as I write this,” a social media post from Broyles said. “The events of this evening brought my family and I to a prayerful decision. I can no longer serve you properly. Tonight I suffered no less than a modern-day inquisition filled with lies, deceit, misinformation, and downright treachery. Dirty politics certainly ruled the day.”

Broyles stated he has cleared his office and his resignation will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday.

“I fulfilled my promise to you, to reunite the Town, reform a failed administration, and restore our reputation, but I guess some just didn’t care for such,” the post from Broyles said.

Broyles ended the post by saying “Please pray for our Town and its future. I am deeply concerned.”
