JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Salvation Army of Johnson City has rescheduled its in-person applications for the 2024 Angel Tree program.

The Salvation Army had initially planned to host the in-person applications on Sept. 26 and 27, but severe weather brought on by Hurricane Helene forced the events to be rescheduled.

The Angel Tree applications will now be conducted on Friday, Oct. 11, from 4:30-7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. until noon at Dawn of Hope, 500 East Oakland Avenue in Johnson City.

At the events, parents and guardians can request Christmas gifts for their children up to age 17.

The Salvation Army previously announced it was requiring families to come in person to apply for Christmas assistance and bring proper documentation.

Parents and guardians must bring government-issued photo IDs for themselves and evidence of need. According to the Salvation Army, evidence of need could include two recent pay stubs, a housing voucher, or letters with TANF, WIC, SNAP, or SSI awards. Birth certificates or custody papers, as well as social security cards or consulate papers for children, are also required.

According to the Salvation Army, some exceptions may be possible for people affected by Hurricane Helene.

Families in Washington, Carter, Unicoi and Greene counties may apply with the Salvation Army of Johnson City.
