TRI-CITIES (WJHL)—The Tennessee Department of Transportation confirmed on Thursday that it is contacting property owners along state routes affected by Hurricane Helene to request access to damaged properties.

East Tennesseeans who may have received a form from TDOT have expressed concern about its legitimacy, a notice from TDOT states. TDOT clarified on Thursday that this is not a scam, and the department requires permission from residents before entering and rebuilding damaged property.

TDOT confirmed that affected homeowners required to provide a right-of-entry will receive a form directly from the right-of-way office.
