SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A former Sullivan County deputy court clerk has been indicted after she allegedly tampered with government records.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), a Sullivan County Grand Jury returned a 10-count indictment against Valerie L. Greene on Wednesday, charging her with the following:

    • 2 counts of tampering with governmental records
    • 2 counts of violation of the Tennessee Personal and Commerical Computer Act of 2003
    • 6 counts of official misconduct

Greene’s charges stem from an investigation that found she reportedly used her former position as a deputy court clerk to “unlawfully access electronic court records in an effort to seal documents related to her own criminal history.”

The TBI stated in a news release that Greene accessed and tampered with records on two different occasions.

Greene surrendered to authorities on Monday at the Sullivan County Jail. She was booked into the jail on a $5,000 bond.

The investigation was requested by District Attorney General Pro Tem D. Michael Dunavant, who was appointed by the court after 2nd Judicial District Attorney General Barry Staubus recused himself from from case.
