Tennessee High started the evening with a 3-1 win over the Smoky Bears, securing the program’s tenth appearance in the sectional round. Science Hill followed that up with a 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-22, 25-11) of Cocke County.

The Vikings and Hilltoppers will meet for a Region 1-3A championship in Johnson City on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

In Virginia, a matchup of two state playoff teams from a season ago went the way of Gate City. The Blue Devils rallied to take the first frame, 25-22, before swiping the second set, 25-20.

The Spartans remained alive with a 25-23 win in the third set, but the home team claimed a marathon fourth set, 31-29, for the victory.
