GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Greene County residents who need to test the quality of their well water after floodwaters covered parts of the region can pick up testing kits for free.

The Greene County Office of Emergency Management announced on Tuesday that free well water test kits have arrived at the Green County Health Department.

County residents can pick the kits up from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the health department through Friday. Anyone picking up a kit should enter the facility (located at 810 W Church St, Greeneville) at the main entrance and tell the service desk that they need one of the testing kits.

The Greene County EMA stressed the importance of inspecting well water after a flood, stating that potential contaminants like coliform bacteria can become present.

Well water should also be flushed and disinfected after a flood before being consumed or used.

According to the EMA, no level of coliform bacteria is considered safe for drinking water.
