JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Two-term state Rep. Tim Hicks (R-Gray) faces the same Democrat he did in the 2020 election, Johnson Citian Brad Batt.

News Channel 11 invited both candidates in and asked them the same six questions. Both obliged and you can watch and listen to answers to each separate question below. We’re also offering an audio-only version that you’ll see a link to just above each video link — as well as full audio with all six questions to give voters a chance to listen to the questions and answers at their convenience.

Listen to the audio version of the entire Q and A here:

Hicks, who owns a construction company, captured nearly 73% of the vote in 2020, defeating Batt with 21,557 votes to Batt’s 8,107. Batt is a small business owner.

The questions, with audio and then video links below them, are:

Why are you choosing to run?

How would you address regional population increase as a state legislator?

What do you see as the region’s greatest asset, and what should be done to enhance that?

What do you see as the district’s greatest challenge?

What’s the greatest issue on Tennesseans’ minds within the state that ought to be addressed?

As a leader, why should voters consider you the better candidate?
