WISE COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — Wise County leaders are encouraging people in the county to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

On Thursday, the county issued a news release urging people impacted to apply for individual assistance.

Scott County added to Disaster Unemployment Assistance declaration

“FEMA assistance can provide financial aid for essential items, temporary housing, home and property repairs, vehicle and appliance replacements, and more,” the release states.

Those who would like to apply can do so online or by calling FEMA’s helpline at 800-621-3362. Applications are also available through the FEMA mobile app.

People who have already filled out a damage report will still need to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance separately.

Virginia previously requested a federal emergency declaration for Public Assistance, Emergency Protective Measures and Direct Federal Assistance, which was approved. That declaration provided additional levels of support for Grayson, Smyth, Tazewell, Washington, Wise and Wythe counties, as well as the City of Galax.
