KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — The City of Kingsport continued its 30-year tradition of inspecting its snow equipment on Friday before the start of the winter season.

Kingsport Vice Mayor Darrell Duncan said the city has about 40 vehicles prepared for snow and inclement weather.

“Last year, we had a pretty sizable snow, and so we’re trying to just make sure our citizens are safe,” Duncan said. “We have about 500 miles of roads and so especially for our safety vehicles initially to be out and to have the roads covered.”

Kingsport inspects its winter weather vehicles each year, testing the plows, safety lights, headlights, brake lights and other features.

“It’s getting that time of year,” Duncan said. “We’ve already seen some snowfall in the mountains and so hopefully we’re going to be snow-ready.”

According to Duncan, Kingsport has roughly 4,300 tons of salt set aside for roads, but more is available if needed.
