    East TN Valkyrie host open tryout

    ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) – Across the country, organization’s in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) hosted tryouts ahead of their 2025 spring season.

    The East Tennessee Valkyrie joined in, welcoming familiar and new faces to the field at T.A. Dugger Junior High School in Elizabethton on Saturday.

    Head Coach Shannon Simpson told News Channel 11 that he expects to have roughly 30 players back from last year’s squad, which finished 5-1 in the Division 3 ranks of the WFA. Saturday’s tryout welcomed at least seven new players into the world of women’s tackle football.

    “It’s exciting to be out here because I started with the team three years ago – we’re getting read to start our fourth season,” Simpson said. “We’re really excited to see where we go from here.”

    Simpson said those interested in joining the team can come to the squad’s next open practice, which will be held on Sunday, November 3.
