L’ANSE, Mich. (WJMN) – Volunteers with the American Legion Post 144 in L’Anse spent Friday morning honoring our nation’s heroes ahead of Memorial Day. They were at Evergreen Cemetery placing flags at the gravesites of veterans.

The group does this every year with hopes that people take the time to reflect the sacrifices made for our freedoms.

“We’re honoring people on Memorial Day for their freedom,” said Delbert Kahler, American Legion Post 144. “That’s what I hope they’re doing. I mean, when they see the cemetery, there are a lot of veterans buried in every cemetery. A lot of people gave their lives.”

The group also places flags at three other cemeteries in the area.
