Transport back to the ’80s at Republic Retro Days this weekend

REPUBLIC, Mich. (WJMN) – Republic Retro Days are back on August 23 and 24, and this time they’re celebrating the 1980s.

The fun kicks-off on Friday night with an all class gathering at Republic Township Hall from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Saturday there will be all sorts of activities including a 5K Fun Run, an 80s themed parade, a Rubik’s Cube contest and more.

“We start off with a 5K Fun Run at 9:00 a.m. along River Road and then a parade, and we’re once again going to have a dog parade in front of the parade,” said Leslie Hurst, Republic Retro Days Planning Committee member. “So, we encourage everyone to dress up in eighties attire. Dress your dogs up and there will be first, second, third prize for the best costumes. Also, for floats as well. We’ve got some fun games this year, Rubik’s Cube Challenge. We’ve got this balloon thing where people are dressed up. Some celebrities are dressed up as big characters. And we’ve got a corn hole tournament. And then there’s we’ve got bounce houses and photo booths. There will be balloon animals, face painting, and then we’ve got our local food vendors, Summer Place and Maki’s, and then a little food tent and then Journey’s Eatz and Grateful Cheese will be there as well.”
