JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – A Jackson professor is set to serve as president of a national teacher’s association.
Dr. Jennifer K. Young Wallace, of Jackson State University (JSU), will be the president of the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) president from 2025 to 2026. Wallace joined the ATE national board in 2019 and currently serves as ATE’s first vice president. Her term as president begins in March 2025. According to JSU, Wallace was humbled to be chosen for her new role in the organization.
“I’m thankful to ATE for electing me to such an honorable position. I am excited about my team of educators who are from higher education institutions in America,” Wallace said.
Wallace is a tenured associate professor/coordinator of the Educational Leadership Doctoral Program for the College of Education and Human Development at JSU. The president-elect first graduated from Alcorn State University with a degree in English/journalism. She received master’s degrees from JSU, Mississippi College and a PhD in educational administration from JSU.
Jackson State receives $23 million for campus improvements Wallace will be ATE’s first president who is an alumna and employee of an HBCU. As president, she will preside over two national conferences in St. Louis, Missouri and Crystal City, Virginia, during the Summer of 2025 and March of 2026.
Wallace previously chaired the ATE’s Legislative Government Relations Committee and worked on the organization’s national board to work on ATE’s sustainability.
Wallace has served on numerous committees/task forces for the Mississippi Department of Education, focusing on teacher preparation. Wallace is also a member of the Mississippi Department of Education, the Margaret Walker Alexander National Center Board, Precious Children Mobile Mission, and the Legislative Government Relations Committee for ATE.
At JSU, Wallace was elected chair of the university’s Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, 2021-2023, where she presided over curriculum changes and modifications for all degrees at the university. Wallace also served as Faculty Senate treasurer from 2023-2024 and Appeals Committee chair from 2022-2023.
