JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Working out three to five days throughout the week for just 30 minutes can cause a dramatic change in your life.

Mississippi has a history of being known as one of the unhealthiest states in the country, but a trainer in the Jackson area said he’s looking to change the narrative.

“I think it’s honestly because nutrition is starting to become like… it’s starting to come to light, meaning people are just starting to notice that what they’re eating isn’t benefiting them. In the longest run, Jackson, Mississippi, has had a long standpoint for obesity and topping the weight charts. And it’s just like… it’s time to make a change, man. It’s time to make Jackson fit again,” said Don Jones, Jr., a personal trainer with Da Bootcamp, LLC.

Jones operates out of The Ark in South Jackson. He believes that investing in your physical fitness not only helps your body but also contributes to other positive aspects in life.

“Just invest into the week doing three to five workouts, 30 to 45 minutes. It’s just going to be a better benefit for you. Whether you’re doing it yourself, investing into trainers or investing in maybe a run group to where y’all are incorporating physical activity for about an hour or two hours throughout your day,” Jones said.

When it comes to exercise and physical health, most people believe working out is the hard part of getting in shape and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but the most important factor is the food you consume.

“Yeah, it’s 80% nutrition, 20% workout. Any certified trainer should be able to tell you that working out will not get you the health goals that you want other than making you feel good. Of course, you’re going to come with results and get accustomed to whatever workout regimen you have. But if you really want to jump to the next level on the mountain, nutrition, proper supplementation, knowing what vitamins to take, what nutrients to look for, all those things play a big part when it comes to training yourself and improving your mental health, your physical health and just your body in general,” explained Jones.
