    16-year-old charged in Hattiesburg armed carjacking

    HATTIESBURG, Miss. ( WHLT ) – Hattiesburg police arrested a 16-year-old in connection to an armed carjacking.

    The incident occurred in the 200 block of Tatum Road around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14.

    When officers arrived at the location, they learned that an unknown male approached the victim, pointed a firearm in his direction and demanded he exit the vehicle. Police said the victim complied, and the suspect fled in the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

    Investigators said they located the abandoned vehicle around 12:00 p.m. in the 300 block of Lurty Avenue. Shortly afterwards, police located the 16-year-old suspect and brought him into custody for questioning.

    Police later arrested and charged the teen as an adult with one count of armed carjacking. He was booked into the Forrest County Jail. The teen has not been identified by police.
