JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said nine people, including a three-year-old girl, were shot overnight during two separate shootings.

The first shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 on Palm Street near Ridgeland Drive in Jackson.

Wade said three people were inside a stolen Kia Forte at the location, and one person fired shots at a person outside the vehicle. He said the person returned fire and injured the three people inside the Kia.

The police chief said the three people inside the Kia were a 31-year-old man, an 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old man. According to police, Brendon Booth was one of the victims and he is being charged with aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police are still searching for the suspect who shot them.

The second shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20 in the 300 block of Maple Street.

Wade said six people, including a three-year-old girl, were injured during a drive-by shooting at the location. The victims’ ages range from three to 52. All victims were treated at the hospital and released with non-life threatening injuries.

“As a police chief and as a father, this is just absolutely unacceptable and heartbreaking for me and for this community that a 3-year-old child cannot be safe, that a 3-year-old child has to endure the trauma of being shot,” Wade said.

According to the police chief, there were three to four suspects inside a gray sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, during the drive-by shooting. Police are still searching for them.

The shootings happened days after one person was killed and five others were wounded in a shooting at a bar in downtown Jackson.

Anyone with information about the shootings can contact the Jackson Police Department (JPD) at 601-960-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS (8477).
