HATTIESBURG, Miss. ( WHLT ) – The Pearl River Community College (PRCC) Development Foundation announced the Build Better Scholarship, made possible by a $5,000 contribution from the Ford Foundation.

Officials said this scholarship, specifically designed to support single parents or children of single parents, will be awarded to a deserving student this fall.

“The PRCC Foundation is excited to work with the Ford Foundation through scholarship support,” said Executive Director of Development Foundation/Alumni Association Delana Harris. “The Ford Foundation has chosen to provide a scholarship to a single parent or a child of a single-parent home pursuing a degree at PRCC.”

The Ford Foundation in Hattiesburg was founded in 2023 with the primary mission of assisting single-parent families.

“Every scholarship awarded is a step towards breaking the cycle of hardship for single-parent families,” said Executive Director Lauren Firth. “The Build Better Scholarship program is our commitment to supporting their journey to a brighter, more empowered future.”

The total amount awarded will depend on a student’s need, up to full tuition and fee coverage. This opportunity allows single parents to enroll in college and achieve their educational goals without the burden of finances.
