JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – There’s frustration at the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF) of Mississippi after officials said a Jackson work crew cut a water valve while mowing the grass on Wednesday.

Peggy Harrell, with ARF, said the employee was mowing a right of way in front of their building on Mayes Street. She said the employee ran over ARF’s back flow valve, which left them without water for five hours.

The broken pipe was repaired more than three hours later. Harrell said the employee who came out to fix the broken pipe guaranteed that it would be fixed.

However, Harrell said the pipe was still leaking Thursday morning.

“I’m thinking it wasn’t going to be a big deal. But after three and a half hours of back and forth as to who was going to take responsible for the city breaking our property, they finally… My Councilwoman Virgi Lindsey was able to get somebody to come out here and start working on it,” said Elizabeth Jackson, with ARF.

Jackson said they’ve received support from the community with bottled water and food for the animals.

ARF officials said the issue was finally fixed Thursday evening.
