    4 teens arrested after Hattiesburg chase involving stolen car

    HATTIESBURG, Miss. ( WHLT ) – Hattiesburg police arrested an 18-year-old and three juveniles after a chase involving a stolen vehicle, authorities said.

    Police said they attempted to stop the teenagers near Hardy Street and U.S. Highway 49 around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1. They said the vehicle was driving carelessly, making several illegal turns.

    According to investigators, the vehicle fled and began accelerating at a high rate of speed, continuing east on Hardy Street. The vehicle later wrecked at the roundabout on 2nd Avenue and Hardy Street.

    Police said four suspects fled from the vehicle, but they were arrested near Corrine Street and 2nd Avenue. Investigators said the suspects’ vehicle had been reported stolen in Meridian.

    The driver, Khamyzion Aladmin Myial Smith, 18, of Meridian, was arrested and booked into the Forrest County Jail on the following charges:

    • Providing false information to a law enforcement officer
    • Receiving stolen property–value > $1000
    • Felony eluding law enforcement officer (reckless or willful disregard)

    The other occupants, three juvenile males, were charged with one count of possession of a handgun by a minor and one count of act of delinquency. They were booked into the Forrest County Juvenile Detention.
